10 Quirky and Unusual Gifts for Writers
Since Christmas has exploded in every store, I thought this might be a good time to give out some gift ideas for the writers in our circle of friends and families. I’m using links to Amazon but am not affiliated with it at this time. I just like to buy there, since I’m lazy and they wrap and mail my packages for me.
#1 Creative Block – A Cure for Writer’s Block
A fantastic gift for writers, Creative Block was made by a writer for writers. It includes several prompts and mini-activities designed to help writers overcome the dreaded writer’s block. If you want to give a gift that can really help your writer, this is one of the most fun.
#2 Fun Writing Shirt
Not my favorite choice, this is more of the easy button of gifting: T-shirts. There are multiple T-shirts with cute slogans for writers. The one in this link is just one of my favorite sayings that had an interesting picture as well. So if you can’t find anything else that you like, I suggest going with this.
#3 Journals – This is One of My Favorites
I am an unapologetic journal collector. I love journals. When I’m blocked or my writing is feeling stale, I take a journal out and write somewhere new. So they are both pretty and useful. This one in particular appealed to me (and I actually don’t own it yet). But check with your author. Not all of us are journal addicts.
#4 Novel Teas
I like to drink tea as I revise. When I found this one, it made me smile. Most writers enjoy a good pun. And these Novel Teas come with quotes from great novels. They come in different varieties, pun intended, so check out your options. Have a warm cup of tea with your resident author.
#5 A Writer’s Odyssey (2021 Movie)
Here is where you find out about my love of Asian action movies. If your author needs downtime with a good popcorn film, try A Writer’s Odyssey. Let them lose themselves in another author’s world. There are actually several author-centered movies out there for you to pick from. I chose this particular one because it’s newer, mindless fun that most people haven’t heard of. It’s available on Blueray and as a digital download.
#6 Writer’s Ring (for Men or Women)
Here’s a discreet reminder that your favorite writer can wear. It both represents something they can be proud of as well as having a gentle nudge to inspire them to write. The ring comes in various colors/metals and sizes. Find the one that would fit your author best. Show them that you are there to support them.
#7 Writer’s Bracelet (for Men or Women)
Much of what I said about the ring holds true for this bracelet. The difference is this one has a drop of humor. Designed for a more bad-ass writer, this bracelet doesn’t nudge. It tells the writer to “Keep that Shit Up.” A message all authors need to take to heart if they want to finish a novel.
#8 Hemingway Pencil Cup
If your writer is a pen collector, the one with pens scattered all over their writing space, then this is the gift for you. Named after a famous author, the Hemingway Pencil Cup will give your writer a place to put all their random writing implements. Even if they don’t put anything in it, the old-school typewriter looks good on any writer’s desk.
#9 Write Wall Decor
Every author that I’ve ever spoken to agrees on one thing: sitting down and writing is one of the hardest things to do. This piece of wall art is there to remind your author to do just that: Write! It comes in several different sizes as well as finishes. So if you want to nudge and cheer your author on, this is the gift for you.
#10 Amoysanli Knight Pen Holder
Okay, I just think this one is cool looking, even if the pen is not included. Who can resist a knight bowing to them, offering up your weapon of choice? I could easily see one of my purple, revision pens sitting in his open palms. I can’t imagine any writer not appreciating this guy waiting for them in their writing space.
